Conor McGregor’s private jets, Rolls-Royces, and Proper No. Twelve billboards are just a few of the details that tend to get lost in the commotion surrounding him. Shortly before his UFC debut, he was receiving about $235 per week in government assistance in Dublin. That’s the number. It began there.

Conor McGregor is currently the richest mixed martial artist in the sport’s history, with an estimated net worth of $200 million. He is more than $150 million ahead of the person in second place. It’s not a modest lead. It’s a different universe.

His financial story is intriguing in part because the money didn’t come from a single source. Yes, fight purses were large, but they were never the entire picture. Although McGregor lost by TKO in the tenth round, his most lucrative night in the ring was actually in boxing, not mixed martial arts. The 2017 fight against Floyd Mayweather reportedly brought in about $100 million. Ironically, his largest payout came from a fight he lost.

His earnings from the UFC speak for themselves. According to documents from an antitrust lawsuit, he made about $25 million from UFC fights alone between 2015 and 2016. An estimated $47–50 million was spent on his 2018 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the highest-selling PPV event in MMA history with 2.4 million purchases. According to reports, the 2021 Poirier bout, which resulted in McGregor breaking his leg at the bottom of the cage, paid about $33 million. The estimated total earnings for a UFC career are approximately $235 million.

However, it wasn’t a fight at all that produced the number that may have changed everything. McGregor reportedly received $150 million in pre-tax profits when he sold his majority share in Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey in April 2021. After launching the brand in 2018, which some initially dismissed as a vanity project, it became something truly significant in the spirits market in just three years. Regardless of your opinion of McGregor personally, that business decision was astute. Although the scale of the deal is difficult to dispute, it’s still possible that the full picture is more complicated than the headline number suggests—private sale structures frequently are.

He earned $180 million in 2021, making him the highest-paid athlete in the world according to Forbes. In 2018, he was ranked fourth with $99 million on the same list. Career numbers are not those. These numbers are for a single year.

In addition to fighting and whiskey, McGregor has developed a portfolio of endorsement deals, including ones with Budweiser and Beats by Dre. He has a share in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, he accepted a Hollywood salary for the Road House remake in 2024. For combat sports athletes, who typically reach their financial peak during their fighting, the income streams are genuinely varied.

After the injury in 2021, he made his comeback to the UFC octagon in July 2026 for a welterweight rematch against Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas. This was his first fight in five years. The financial machinery surrounding McGregor tends to function regardless of whether he wins or loses.

It’s important to take a step back and acknowledge that the $200 million figure is an estimate, as private individual net worth calculations are always. Legal disputes have added financial and reputational issues that don’t neatly appear in a headline figure, such as a 2024 Irish High Court civil ruling against him and over a million euros in related legal expenses.

Nevertheless, its fundamental arc is impressive. McGregor created something far beyond what most athletes can accomplish, from welfare in Crumlin to nine-figure salaries in Las Vegas. The more intriguing question at the moment is probably whether he is still writing that story or if the best parts are already behind him.
